Beachbody programs like P90X, Insanity, Chalene Extreme, and the Asylum workouts all have one or more workouts that are plyometric movement based.
But, what are Plyometrics? Plyometric exercises are those that first stretch the muscle before forcefully contracting the muscle. Think of when you jump in the air, you bend down at the knees this stretches the leg muscles, the leg muscles are activated when you began your movement upward, the more forcefully you contract the leg muscles the higher you can jump up.
The goal of Plyometric exercise is to train a muscle to contract more forcefully, which will for example allow an athlete to jump higher.
The good news for people trying to get in shape is that Plyometric exercise can also build stronger muscles, increase muscle stamina, and be a great form of cardiovascular exercise.
